Surgery and Consultation Fees

 

Initial Consultation - $280

  • Comprehensive assessment, examination

  • Discussion of treatment options

  • Surgical planning if required

  • Medicare rebates claimable with valid referral (approx. $84 currently)

Follow-up Consultations

  • Bulk billed for 1 year post bariatric surgery

  • First post-operative appointments for all surgery has no patient fee

  • $190 for all other follow-up appointments (Medicare rebates may apply)

 

Bariatric/Metabolic (Weight Loss) Surgery

Comprehensive program in a single fee $5700*

*(if your health fund covers Sleeve Gastrectomy - MBS item 31575 or Gastric bypass MBS item 31572 or 31581)

  • Gastric sleeve or gastric bypass (OAGB/Roux/omega/mini)

  • Surgeon/assistant/anaesthetic fees included

  • Post-operative follow-up care with your surgeon - Dr Cocco (first year bulk billed)

  • Multidisciplinary team support with experienced psychologists and dieticians 

Revision Bariatric Surgery

Comprehensive program in a single fee $6700* 

*(if your health fund covers Sleeve Gastrectomy - MBS item 31575 or Gastric bypass - MBS item 31572 or 31581 - Revision - Item 31584)

  • Complex revision procedures - removing band/changing from sleeve to bypass etc

  • Surgeon/assistant/anaesthetic fees included

  • Converting between different procedures

  • Post-operative follow-up care with Dr Cocco (first year bulk billed)

  • Multidisciplinary team support with experienced psychologists and dieticians  

*For insured patients; Hospital, radiology and pathology fees may be additional to the above fees

Uninsured patients can still access surgery with Dr Cocco but will need to pay separately for their hospital fees. Please contact for advice on costs.

General Surgery Procedures

Known-gap billing for most insured patients - Examples include;

  • Gallbladder surgery (laparoscopic)

  • Hernia repairs - groin/inguinal/ abdominal wall - keyhole/laparoscopic and open

  • Anti-reflux surgery

  • Other general surgical procedures

Fees are billed directly through your private health insurance at known-gap or no-gap rates

 

Medical Therapies

  • For some patients Dr Cocco will recommend various medical therapy / medications to be used in conjunction with other strategies.  

  • Dr Cocco does not receive funding or have any financial relationship with any of the pharmaceutical companies and only recommends medications that are evidenced based. 

  • The cost of medications can be discussed at time of consultation but as they are not covered by the PBS they can be several hundred dollars per month.  

  • Dr Cocco can offer a guide on price based on information from the companies

Further information 

  • All surgery will be quoted for each patient

  • Hospital, radiology, pathology costs are separate and billed directly by those providers 

  • Hospital costs will be covered by insurance in appropriately covered patients

  • Some patients choose to access their superannuation for assistance with fees and further information can be found here - SuperCare

  • Uninsured patients can still access surgery with Dr Cocco but will receive a separate quote from the hospital prior to surgery

  • Follow-up care is bulk billed for 12 months after any surgery

  • Medicare rebates may apply where eligible

  • We can provide advice on insurance level or item numbers to check with health funds

  • Some patients choose to wait 12 months after upgrading insurance coverage and others choose to self-pay hospital costs - what is right for each person is individual, consider your circumstances

  • Workcover patients can charge consultations directly to relevant insurers if approved prior

  • DVA patients will have bulk billed consultations, but surgical fees may apply depending on procedure
