Understanding Weight Management

Obesity is a complex medical condition influenced by genetic, metabolic, hormonal and lifestyle factors. In some patients, structured medical or surgical intervention may be considered as part of a broader care plan.

Dr Cocco offers consultation regarding weight management options where clinically appropriate, including surgical and non-surgical approaches, with a focus on patient education, safety and long-term follow-up.

Are you a candidate?

Weight management is not one-size-fits-all. Dr Cocco offers a range of options, from medical (non-surgical) therapy through to keyhole bariatric surgery, and the right path depends on your health, your history and your goals.

The guide below explains who is generally considered, but suitability can only be confirmed after a proper consultation and assessment.

Bariatric Surgeries in Sydney

There are several types of bariatric surgery, depending on your needs. Dr Cocco offers:

A procedure that reduces stomach volume and alters appetite-related hormone signalling.

A procedure that changes the digestive pathway influencing nutrient absorption and hormonal / metabolic processes.

Assessment and management of patients who have previously undergone bariatric surgery and require further evaluation.

Removal of Gastric Bands
or Devices

Assessment and management where previous bariatric devices require removal or revision.

To book, you'll need a referral from your GP.

Not all procedures are suitable for all patients. During your consultation, Dr Cocco will discuss the risks, benefits, alternatives and expected recovery for your specific situation.

What you can expert

Choosing surgery is a big decision. It’s worth taking your time and choosing a surgeon who is a good fit for you. Along with genuine experience and credentials from recognised bodies, look for a surgeon who takes the time to understand you and offers ongoing support.

1. Initial Consult

Meet with Dr Cocco for a comprehensive 45-minute clinical evaluation. Discuss suitable surgical pathways, and a clear review of costs, medical risks, and recovery expectations.

2. Preparation

Before your procedure, collaborate with our dietitians and allied health team. Optimise your nutritional health and establishes a structured care plan tailored to your medical history.
