Medications before surgery?

Recently IFSO (the world's premier body for metabolic and obesity surgery) has commented on what impact medications have before potential surgery. The full text can be read by reviewing the article https://doi.org/10.1016/S2213-8587(25)00198-6 published in the Lancet July 2025.

In short, their opinion is not surprising, surgery for weight management is a safe and appropriate choice in correctly assessed and selected patients.

Obesity is chronic disease which requires ongoing, multimodal and multidisciplinary care for the best outcomes. It is never a choice of one option to then exclude another.
